It was an autumns eve as I strolled down the street to a family owned cafe. I kept my hands in the pockets of my silk blended slacks as I looked up towards the trees walking at a slow pace through; Beautiful day indeed. The sounds of falling leaves through the sunset sky were a delightful mixture of sight and sound but as always again, it was short lived. I was confronted by a man in a burly coat this afternoon who walked up to me in a hurried pace. He wore a black beanie, dark blue jeans, and brown boots, but under his worn clothes, I could tell he was no where near poor. It's always a mans eyes that spoke his fortune. His was obviously at stake as he asked if I was "him". I grinned lightly without an answer. He looked around through the corner of his worried eyes and handed me a thick envelope making sure he wasn't being watched. His hands wrapped over my gloved ones making sure I received the letter then heard his plead of "please". I stuck the envelope in my inside jacket pocket and walked on hearing the scampering of hurried feet behind me. The sounds of my boots thumping on the ground were all I heard from then on as I approached a coffee shop in silence. I sighed as I entered taking off my overcoat and leaving it on a cherry wood coat rack while taking out the letter and seating myself at a corner table near the fire exit that seemed peaceful to read in.
"It's been a quiet night lately."
"Yes I've noticed it as well." I said cracking my knuckles and fingers from atop the table looking through the windows at the trees swaying in the strong wind.
"You from out of town hon?" the owner of the shop said holding a pad and pencil in her hand looking down at me.
"Only my taste for good coffee mam." I said with a soft smile staring back up at her.
"Well then, I won't disappoint you. You wait right here while I go make you a fresh pot." she said with a smirk walking off behind the counter. It wasn't customary for me to speak to anyone, but courtesy was never too much to ask for anywhere. I focused my attention to the letter opening it, tearing off an end, and sliding its contents out into my hand. In it was a wad of hundreds and a letter. I stuffed the money into my pant pocket and opened the letter reading its shaky cursive writing.
"Dear D, It may be much to ask for this but I have searched deep and far for you. It wasn't easy and I have saved every last dollar to afford your services. Though I'm not sure if you'll even do it, I don't have another option besides death to pay off a debt I owe huge on. I plead of you sir to please have this done. My children are at stake so with tears in my eyes I ask you please do this. The name of this person is |------| living on |--------| Ave. She works at |-----------| department store and can be found often with her friends |-------|,|---------|,|-------| at the local bar |-------| and club |--------|. She also drives a red ford |-------| with a bumper sticker saying "how do you like my driving, call 1-800-kiss-my-ass." This is all the information I have for you on her. Please help.
Sincerely, Payer."
Crumpling up the piece of paper quickly, the owner came by with a mug and pot pouring me a hot cup. I nodded as she smiled walking off to tend to another late night customer. As her back was turned, I pulled a small lighter from my pocket and lit it on the ball of paper in my opened hand. It chewed through it fast leaving no trace of existence and no problem as the flame ate it whole. The owner turned around thinking she saw something from me but I smiled drinking my cup as she turned back around with an "hmm".
Early morning came and I stretched myself from the hotel bed. The sheets were cool against my skin yet warm enough to keep my body satisfied. I eventually got up from being lazy and dressed myself in a rush to catch my victim. I was already half an hour late from her work place to start so I decided to keep my cons to a minimum tying up my boots. It became clear to me with the burning of that letter though that this man truly did go out of his way to find me and end this problem driving him to the brink of death. Only the true hunters of peace would know to soak a letter in kerosene if to have me do something. The letters words burned into my head and into my hands. I would surely end this females existence along with her friends.
I slowly breathed in and out as I turned the ignition key and reversed back and out of the parking lot without hesitation. I could see in my rearview mirror as the leaves lifted off the ground drifting through my wind tunnel. I smirked to myself thinking how I could remain so calm knowing I was going to heartlessly do a job I would have never done before. But alas, questions beget questions so I remained silent. I arrived soon and noticed that she hadn't even showed up yet at her workplace. I groaned as I left the parking lot in impatience not a few minutes after. Where could she be? I drove past her house and nothing. I drove past the clubs and nothing. Lastly, I drove past her favorite bar and found her car parked there. I smirked as I parked my car across the street thinking of how I should have guessed she would have been here. Saturday morning and so it would seem her partying didn't end. I got off and walked towards the bar tightening my jacket overcoat around my waist and buried my hands in my pockets as I attempted to look inconspicuous entering the darkened bar. She stood out of the crowd even in her own loud group. There sitting at a table as if the night had never come, were four individuals. All targets, all value; A tall, dainty male with short hair and a toothy smile, a short curly haired female with green eyes, a long haired blonde with a bright red lipstick and a chubby black haired female with braces. Could this be them? I knew it was in my gut...but could these teenagers really be them? I couldn't believe this. An adult would pay me to spill the blood of youth for a purpose unknown to me. I saw what they drank as I signaled to the bartender for another pitcher of beer hopefully figuring out what was their crime for something as extreme as death. They all looked at me with faces of confusion as I pulled up a chair and softly caressed their eyes with my own as I asked, "Do you mind if I join you?" They sat speechless till the bartender slammed the pitchers on the table breaking my hold on their eyes not soon after. Though I was not confident in my appearances, there stood something there when needed that confused and dazed the targets senses. To that I was grateful.
"No, not at all." One female said as she poured herself a mug of beer.
"Excellent." I said giving her a flirtatious smile.
"You don't look like youre from her?" The male said softly sliding his hand under his chin.
"No, I'm not. Just here passing through to see some friends in |-------|."
"Oh wow, must be some important friends." The chubby girl said interestedly.
"Yes very important. Theyre sending me the remains of departed friends to take back to their families. Quite sad really." as I said while I sneakingly sliding two capsules into my mug to neutralize and kill the alcohol in the beer.
"Aww, how sad. Not to get off subject, but could you tell us where your from. I mean where are the cute guys like you hanging out." she said flirtingly.
"Wow, you must be really hammered to think I'm cute." I said smiling.
They all laughed trying to prove me otherwise. We had spent most of the day at that table as I killed more and more beer enduring its horrible taste. It was like water with soap but for finding the truth, I would drink it ten times more. Through this entire time though, I had laughed and joked with these happy individuals. We talked of events in news and life of future wants and future fears. I had not once seen anything or heard anything close to being suspicious of something to deserve death. But I in another state of mind....Draken did not find a reason for them to live. We drove to the blond females house so we could talk some more in the comfort of a warm fire as there was a blizzard to become. I sat down loosening my jacket a bit but still had not taken off my gloves. I sat closest to the door leaning against the armrest while the others became situated around the opposing couch. The chubby girl went over to the fire place to get it started while the blonde female went to fetch some wine from her cabinet. The dainty male sat in the other couch with its pillow in his cross legged lap while the green eyed female sat uncomfortably close to me.
"You know, with the weather getting this bad, are you sure you'll be able to get those ashes?" The green eyed female said getting even closer to me.
"Oh, of course. I only have one more job to do before I go."
"Aww, well what is it? I thought you just had to get the ashes from that friend Draken of yours."
"Oh I do, but I have to do something first." I said calmly.
"Whats that cutey?" the male said easing into the couch more."
"
..Make them
.."
The male and female looked at each other then to me as I stood up slowly. I pulled out my silenced gun from my inside jacket and towards the male. His eyes grew wide as three bullets flew silently into his head. I looked back at the green eyed female and saw her opening her mouth to scream. Before she had a chance I had stuck my hand in her mouth and lifted her off the couch throwing her into the wall where the blonde had disappeared to. I rang three more bullets into her head before she hit the floor. The chubby girl had already heard the commotion but before she could comprehend what was happening after starting the fire to full burn, I had kicked her down in her back as her upper body fell into the flames. She screamed agonizingly but I kept my foot down grinding her spinal cord to keeping her from moving. I looked back towards the doorway where the blond exited for wine and I quickly grabbed an iron poker and threw it directly into her throat. She held on to it as she gasped for breath choking on her own blood and questions. I meanwhile grinded my foot down harder till I heard the chubby girls spine crack under my heavy boot. She screamed but not for long as the flames cooked her head and arms. I grabbed the bottle of wine the blonde girl dropped as I pulled off the cork and drank from it.
"Shitty year
" I said as I spit it out onto her and her green eyed buddys body. I poured the remainder of the bottle over the couch and the fried girl in the fireplace. I walked back over to the fireplace and pulled out a log with my gloved hands and threw one on the couch as the wine lit it up like that letter I had gotten when this all started. I watched as they burned for a while before the whole living room area was on fire. I went to the kitchen to cut the gas pipe and lay the bodies accordingly while I pulled out the bullets from the dead teenagers. There would be no clue as to who had done this as I laid the gun on the couch next to the male. Their bodies were filled with exstasy as I knew they would drink just about anything in front of them at the bar. A magicians slight of hand was all it took for them to foolishly be filled with the drug. I walked to my car ignoring what was behind me...and wiping a small amount of blood from the corner of my mouth as I smiled wickedly. I turned on my car and headed off on the road to another town to yet satisfy an undying hunger for my truth
